Indian Copperleaf is an herbaceous annual that has catkin-like inflorescence growing up to 60 cm or more. Branches are angled and velvet-hairy. Leaves are broadly ovate, nearly triangular, rather coarsely toothed. Flowers are stalkless, borne on erect axillary spikes longer than the leaves. Male flowers are minute, crowded distally.
Female flowers are scattered along the inflorescence axis, The ovary is hispid, 3-lobed. The fruit is 3-lobed, tuberculate and pubescent. Capsules are hispid, 3-valved.
